Chilton busts common myths and misconceptions about food insecurity; she explains how the use of food assistance programs reduces hospitalizations; and, she describes the circumstances that contribute to poverty and food insecurity. “Hunger is associated with isolation, humiliation and shame,” explains Chilton. She combines hard statistical and scientific data with human stories to change policies and promote greater connectedness, community, kindness, and compassion.
